One day, Sirius was on duty with Catherine trying to solve a very difficult case.
A car theft suspect had run into an apartment building.
It was now a hostage situation.
"Now, be careful, Sirius. Always be on guard. You never know what may happen."
"Here's the suspect's jacket. He left it in the car. Boy, he must be really panicing."
"Good. Now, let's get 'im together. Okay, partner?"
Sirius seemed fully focused, but in fact, he couldn't help thinking about what Margherita had told him, Catherine had hurt Dread.
And despite that fact, Dread saved Catherine the other day.
Why? Why would he do that when he should be hating her.
"Sirius, concentrate! This is not training."
Sirius shook his head, as if to forget about Dread and Catherine.
"Woff, woff! Of course, Catherine. Leave it to me!"
Hours passed, but nothing changed.
It was a deadlock. Everyone was irritated and the tension was building.
Just then, Sirius saw Dread walk into a back alley.
Without even thinking, Sirius ran after him.
It was the first time he had deserted his post.
"Wait! Dread! It's me, Sirius."
"Sirius, what is it?"
"I need to ask you something."
"Margherita said that ... your right eye, it's because of Catherine. Is it true?"
"So? She hit you so hard, you lost the sight in your right eye. You have every right to hate her. Still... still you saved her the other day."
"And? But why? Why did you save her, Dread?"
Dread gave out a short sigh, thought for a moment, and then...
"Sirius, I need to ask you a favor."
"You're a very capable dog. That's why I'm asking you."
"What is it?"
"I want you to look after Charo."
"Yes. In case anything happens to me ... just in case, you know ... check on him. See if he's okay."
"What are you trying to say?"
"Nothing. I'm just... I'm only wishing for his safe return to Japan."
"How many times do I have to say this? It's impossible, Dread. Get real."
"Real... Humph. Did you know that reality can be made of miracles?"
"Yeah. Look at me. Who could have imagined me caring for others?"
Dread said this much, and left.
"You haven't answered my question yet!"
"Yes, Sirius. I have."
Sirius stood there for a while speechless.
He wasn't sure what does think of the conversation.
It was the sound of a siren that brought him back.
Sirius ran back to his post, but it was too late.
Catherine and her colleagues had already captured the suspect.
"Sirius! Are you out of your mind? Where were you?"
"I can't believe this. You, of all dogs... What's the matter with you?"
"No, Catherine. Woff, woff!"
"Anything wrong, Catherine?"
"Sirius left his post during the stakeout."
"That's a problem. I suppose he found something interesting."
"That can't be. We're talking about Sirius. You know how many award he's received."
"But how else can you explain it?"
"We can't afford him to act like this. I'm sending him back to the K9 Academy for a re-training program."
"Wait, Catherine. Listen to me. Woff, woff."
"Shhh! Stop barking. Gee, you really do need some basic training."
The more he barked, the worse it got for Sirius.
This was the first time he experience the bitter taste the humiliation.
