One day, Charo was walking pass the backyard of Chris's hospital and saw Candy.
She was gently putting something down from her mouth.
It was a beautiful flower.
"Please, please make my wish come true."
Charo crawled under the fence and ran toward her.
"Candy, what are you doing?"
"Charo! Were you watching? I'm offering flowers so that my wish will come true."
"This many? You collected all this? By yourself?"
"It still doesn't seem enough. I just have to do something."
"Why? What are you wishing for?"
"Chris is going through surgery tomorrow."
"Surgery... You must be worried."
Charo's words made Candy feel much better.
It was such a relief to know that somebody understands.
"You see, Chris always rests under this tree during his daily walks. This is where I wait for him every day."
"That's why you are offering flowers here."
"Yes... I know it's not much, but still..."
"You really care for him, don't you?"
"Of course! I'll do anything for Chris."
"I know... what you mean."
Charo was thinking about Shota.
If Shota were sick, Charo would feel the same way.
"If the surgery succeeds, I'll be able to live with Chris again."
"Um, Charo, would you stay with me tomorrow, during Chris's surgery?"
"I mean, you're the only one around who knows about Chris. You came to Chicago with us, and so..."
"Sure. I'll stay with you."
"Thank you, Charo. Okay, I'm going to get some more flowers now."
"Yes. It's hard for me to just sit and wait. Bye, Charo. See you tomorrow."
Early the next morning, Charo went to the hospital backyard with a flower in his mouth.
He put it under the tree just like Candy did.
"May Chris's surgery go well and Candy be happy with him again."
Charo closed his eyes and prayed.
Candy came and saw this.
"Good morning, Candy."
"What are you... Are you crying?"
Charo didn't realize it, but tears were rolling down his cheeks.
"I was ... I was just wishing the best for Chris and... Look! I brought a flower!"
"Thank you... for the flower, and for crying for Chris!"
"Um, not just for Chris, but for you, too."
"Yes. The way you were gathering flowers, I wanted to do something for you."
With that, Candy became silent.
She seemed to be searching for words.
"Charo, I have something to tell you. If Chris's surgery goes well, we might be moving to Chicago."
"It's important that Chris gets good care, especially after his surgery. There's a good doctor over there, who's also a family friend, and so..."
This meant that Charo would not be able to see her again, once she move to away.
Charo's heart started beat fast, but he was too young to understand why.
Just then, Candy saw Chris being pushed down the corridor in his wheelchair.
"It's Chris! The surgery. It's going to start."
"He's okay, Candy. Everything will be just fine."
"Yes, I know. There's no need to worry. Chris told me not to."
Candy was already about to cry.
She had always tried to act like a big sister to Charo, but today, she seemed so weak and vulnerable.
Charo sat right the side her under the tree.
The two stayed there for hours. It was a very long day for them.
